Five Ways to Get Work Faster
1. Create another resume
The more different resumes, the more chances to get an invitation.
Why it works: employers often look for candidates on their own. A search on hh.ru does not yet know how to read minds, so that an accountant will never be offered a job as a nanny, and a well-writing marketer is unlikely to be invited to become an editor. There is only one way out: if you need work urgently, create several resumes - both close by profession, and “fallback options”.
Duplicate the old resume, rename the copy, change the "About" section: the new resume is ready. Update it to be higher in the search. By the date of the update, employers will understand whether you are looking for work or have already stopped accessing the site.
Why it’s dangerous: the employer can find and see all your resumes. It is better not to rush to extremes: attempts to get a position at different levels - both the janitor and the general director - are likely to cause distrust.
2. Add a photo
To make the employer brighter with your smile.
Why it works: a photograph is easier to remember, easier to find in the list of responses.
Why it is dangerous: appearance is a matter of taste. It’s hard to predict how a person on the other side of the screen will react to your photo. Choose portraits with a slight smile, good lighting, made by a photographer, not a smartphone in the mirror. If there is no suitable photo, it is better to completely abandon this idea. In one of the surveys, we found that with the same resume, 94% of employers would call for a job interview with a professional business portrait and only 24% were ready to invite a person to take a selfie in the resume. In real life, the difference will not be so strong, but still persist.
3. Do not write a cover letter
No cover letter - no errors in the cover letter.
Why it works: with cover letters everything is complicated. It has been tested in practice: if it is impossible to respond to a vacancy without a cover letter, then a quarter of the candidates will simply put an end to it, the other part will write “Please review my resume for this vacancy,” and the third will send this, which makes my hair stand on end. At different times, the hh.ru editorial office received poems (“Dasha is not yours yet!”), Stories about a pious life (“a loving father of four children, a faithful and devoted husband”), hints of communication with the leadership (“sign with your director "). If nothing comes to mind, it is better to remain silent than to spoil the impression so quickly.
Why it is dangerous: good writing is always an advantage. It is strange to get a response without a cover letter from a brand manager, it is strange to see a resume of a commercial director who was too lazy to tell about himself. If you don’t own the word, don’t panic: give a link to the portfolio, tell us about your experience and professional level in a couple of sentences, express your readiness to do a test task - the recruiter thanks you.
4. Check literacy
Check can not be sent.
Why it works: everyone makes mistakes - this is normal. But people are less tolerant of other people's mistakes. Although the “-t” rule has long been erased from memory, and the comma between the subject and the predicate has become the norm, an adult should have no mistakes in the resume. We are equipped with competent friends and online services: “Litera.ru” will help you remember the rules and check individual words, “Spelling” will subtract the text, and “Glavred” will advise which phrases and words in the resume should be removed or changed.
Why it’s dangerous: it’s definitely safe.
5. Respond!
A rolling stone gathers no moss.
Why it works: the more responses, the more likely it is to receive an invitation. Some career counselors suggest tracking performance: counting how many responses you need to complete to get one interview invitation, and how many interviews result in a job invitation. This will help to repeat the result.
Why it’s dangerous: response for the sake of response plays against applicants. When many irrelevant resumes arrive, the employer simply stops paying attention to them. Respond to suitable vacancies - for example, to the selection that automatically arrives in the mail, or configure auto-searches with the necessary parameters. If you know exactly what you are looking for, then the job will find you! If you still doubt your choice, try the Career Guidance - the test will help you understand what is important to you.
